Welcome to Europe's|most modern public transport city!

On behalf of the City of Flensburg and of all partners involved in this project, I wish to invite you to explore Showcity Flensburg!
We are proud to announce that a new era in urban public transport is starting right here, in our great city in the very north of Germany. And this is not the first time that we show our pioneering spirit! Flensburg was also the first city in Germany to build a central omnibus station.
This time, Flensburg shows the way forward by introducing a real-time online bus service, and the whole city has teamed up to make it a success: we have already equipped 60 buses with this advanced system technology that also boosts profitability.
Together, we have set the wheels in motion towards a better future – for our citizens and visitors as well as for the environment and the economy in our region. I hope that many other cities will follow our example!
With the best wishes for a bright future
Yours Simon Faber
Lord Mayor of Flensburg
The technology|Attention to detail
A vision turned reality|Find out – live!
How can something be new if it's already been invented?
How can we turn costs into profits?
Can't we bring the future into today?
We can. And you're invited – come and see Showcity and rediscover public transport. As economical, attractive and reliable as never before!
Always a step ahead|A vision turned reality
CCTV, passenger counting, fleet and data management, infotainment – each of these technologies has proven its mettle in the real world, so the technology behind the Showcity Flensburg project is not really new – but it is still revolutionary.
We've taken a completely different route – all of the products are linked into a complete and integrated system that interacts intelligently while halving hardware requirements. These components interact for complete vehicle data monitoring, control and analysis from one central computer.
This has maximised efficiency, with the necessary investment amortised within one year due to cost reductions and increased revenue. It may sound utopian, but it's true – and not only with the payoff from selling more attractive advertising space; the drastically reduced diesel consumption using Eco Performers, efficient route planning, and savings due to preventing vandalism, damage, and accidents have made the system altogether more economical.
CCTV and other features have also increased safety on board, while the new entertainment and infotainment functions using WiFi will help boost attractiveness of public transport, raising passenger numbers into the bargain.
In all of this, we have almost incidentally reached our number one goal – active contribution to climate protection and a healthy quality of life from immense cuts in CO2 emissions in the Showcity.
Hard to believe? See for yourself – right here: The technology

Not missing a beat:|Passenger counting
Passenger counting by 3D camera is highly accurate, providing solid values that help in fleet management towards optimising routing for individual lines by the number of passengers that use them.
In addition, passenger count data yield valuable information on how many passengers are using a particular bus – relevant not only in selling advertising space, but also with regard to safety.

Live information stream|Fleet and data management
The whole data and fleet management system makes scheduling easier, while optimising route planning and keeping an overview of bus network activity. The system's various functions combine the data streams, and this is the key to making the system more economical.

More functionality|The special features
There are no limits to interactivity using the R2P public transport system. The system is under constant extension with new features to enhance public transport economic efficiency, safety and attractiveness with added benefit for drivers, passengers, and the future of society at large.

Live video transmission|Interior CCTV
Analogue and digital cameras keep an eye on the interior of the vehicle, including the driver. All of the recordings are stored for documentation purposes, of course. In an emergency, a touch of a button opens a live link to the control centre.
This comes in very useful in accident situations for a valuable initial analysis of the situation based on real-time visual transmission before emergency services arrive on the scene.
Don't hesitate to contact us at R2P if you need any further information.

Passenger counting|Simply accurate

Our passenger counting system uses a stereo camera that delivers accurate results every time – even in adverse weather conditions and crowding.

Bus utilisation|Convenience and economics

Overcrowded buses are a burden on passengers, and empty buses are a burden on business. Both need to be avoided as far as possible by intelligent schedule planning, good vehicle selection, and efficient routing.

Ticketing|Accurate time-stamping
The integrated on-board system supports systems – even from different manufacturers – such as ticketing. Passenger counts with accurate time-stamping provide an ideal basis for sales planning and administration.

Passenger information|Everything you need to know

Infotainment provides information from the public transport company itself using its own channel – information such as schedule changes, announcing the next stop, or important information on travel connections, or opening dialogue with passengers in the case of an emergency.

Passenger TV|Keeping up with the latest

On-board multimedia increases public transport popularity, generating greater passenger counts by showing the latest national news and sports results on board.

Advertising|Mobile medium

Monitors are popular advertising spaces in buses with thousands of passengers seeing them – an attractive marketing proposition as a mobile medium for advertisers.
Audio over FM|On Air
A dedicated FM frequency enables transmission and reception of audio content for passengers linked through their own mobile devices, which will especially appeal to the younger generation.

Hotspot| WiFi/3G

WiFi hotspots give passengers easy access to the internet during the ride or at many stops.
Voice over IP|Voice communications
Voice over IP allows passengers to transmit infotainment on their mobile devices, but the driver can also keep in contact with the control centre using VoIP – such as in critical situations. Apart from that, VoIP can be used to replace ordinary PMR.

Fleet management| Central evaluation

Centralised management for all of the vehicle data makes it easy to analyse and evaluate passenger numbers, fuel consumption, and service and error messages, and also plays an essential role as an alarm system for accidents and crime.

Status monitoring|Perfectly connected

Each vehicle is connected to the central office for real-time data transfer allowing highly flexible scheduling while increasing passenger and driver safety on board.

Alcometer|Safe driving

Alcometers are an effective tool in preventing accidents; the bus will only start once the driver has taken and passed an alcohol test.

CAN Bus|Error detection
The system reads bus-specific data from the CAN Bus – data on oil levels, active control lights, temperature, fuel consumption, and similar generate an alert requiring a check or inspection before the actual workshop visit. Any errors will generate a message for fleet management to take corrective action before the problem worsens or causes greater damage.
ECO Performer|Saving fuel

An LED box with an indicator light tells drivers when they are driving in the "green zone" to encourage an economical driving style that can lead to savings of up to 10–15% in diesel according to initial findings from the road.
ECO Profiler|Evaluation tool

An ECO Profiler is an evaluation tool for ECO Performer, recording and analysing the whole driving style to give operators a complete overview at any time, while also providing incentives for drivers based on an internal ranking system.

Towards a green future|Flensburg and climate protection

The Showcity project turned Flensburg into the absolute public transport location in Germany as a role model on both the national and international stage, and that's not nearly everything that Flensburg has been up to in climate protection.
The city authorities, universities and public utilities united forces into a joint project to promote the future of Flensburg. The city aims towards reaching carbon-neutral status by 2050 through reducing energy consumption in every household and industry.
Showcity Flensburg will be making a valuable contribution; even now, buses make more than a quarter of all of the journeys taken in Flensburg – or in numbers: around fifty buses carrying 12 million passengers per annum on a network covering 35 km – nineteen hours each weekday, twenty-three hours on the weekend.
This brings us up to a total of 2.2 million kilometres a year – above average compared to other cities and municipalities in Schleswig-Holstein, and growing even more with the Showcity project. So go green!
